- Microsoft has updated its official “Get Ready” for Windows Vista website
with information concerning the upcoming operating system, including new information concerning the PC requirements of the software's 3D interface, "Windows Aero". The website also indicates that Microsoft has designated two classifications of PCs that will be able to run the upcoming operating system: a "Windows Vista Capable PC" and a "Windows Vista Premium Ready PC", both of which will include, at a minimum, a modern processor (at least 800MHz), 512 MB of system memory, and a graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. The site also provides a downloadable beta version of the Windows Upgrade Advisor
for users who are curious as to if their current PC will be able to run Windows Vista when it is released. Microsoft officials recently confirmed
that the Windows Vista operating system will not now receive a full launch until January 2007, although some OEM versions of the software may ship this year from PC suppliers.
- 3D Realms/Human Head Studios will release a downloadable demo for the upcoming first-person shooter Prey
on June 22. The five level demo will be released for both the PC and over Xbox Live Marketplace, and will feature both single player and multiplayer modes taken from the full game, which is expected to ship on July 10. According to a post on 3D Realm's website
, which has been following the development of the long-delayed title, further information on the size of the demo and which levels it will include will be released in the near future.
- Action film director Jerry Bruckheimer, who recently indicated that he will produce the film adaptation of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia
, this week indicated that he is planning another video game-related movie. The film, Game Boys, is written by Tom Ropelewski and Evan Katz, and it tells the story of two thirty-something video game enthusiasts who marshal an army of other gamers in order to combat monsters from a video game that have mysteriously come to life. Bruckheimer Films' Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will executive produce.
