Helios Interactive Unveils GameCore Dev Platform
Helios Interactive Unveils GameCore Dev Platform
July 2, 2010 | By Leigh Alexander

Winter Park-based studio Helios Interactive is unveiling a new 3D cross-platform development engine it calls GameCore -- and offering a free version for indies and students.

The studio itself uses the tech in games of its own, like the recently-finished Metajets - Extreme Turbulence, based on a cartoon that airs on Cartoon Network. It's also developed Truck Off, a multiplayer, multiplatform monster truck racing game.

Helios says GameCore will soon be available for iPhone, iPad and Droid, aiming to support developers focused on emerging platforms. According to Helios Interactive CEO Rave Mehta, the company is aiming to "bridge the gap between 3D cross-platform game development, web publishing and the social gaming phenomenon."

"GameCore streamlines the art and production pipelines with a true team-based development environment that allows 2D and 3D art to come into the engine with a single click and multiple designers to work within the same level simultaneously," Mehta explains. "And, GameCore has the flexibility to be fully functional on both low-end and the most sophisticated machines, offering game creators the opportunity to reach a much larger audience such as many of the social gamers on Facebook.

Helios is owned by the Mehta Group, a global transportation company with numerous projects and holdings.
