6waves drops 'Lolapps' name, announces new publishing deals
Things are changing rapidly at social publisher 6waves Lolapps, as it's been just one week since the company laid off its development staff
, and now the company has dropped the "Lolapps" name.
Even before its merger
in 2011, the "Lolapps" half of 6waves Lolapps had been dedicated to making its own social games like Ravenwood Fair
. Now that the company doesn't have any development efforts to speak of, it seems the Lolapps name has become a bit superfluous.
A company representative confirmed the name change to Gamasutra, saying, "Since we are mostly going to be focused on publishing -- which is where 6waves comes from -- it just seems to make sense."
In the wake of these changes, the newly re-named 6waves also announced 32 new publishing deals with developers such as Kabam, Atari, and Izelus, to name a few.
In addition, 6waves has already released several of the games included in these deals, including Fling-a-Thing
from BigBlueBubble, Platoonz
from Antic Entertainment, and Lucky Cruise
from Large Animal/WMS.
The new deals also include developers across China, Russia, Korea, and more, giving the publisher an expanded foothold in several major territories around the world.
"The momentum that we have gained in both mobile and social in 2012 should send a clear signal to the industry: we are committed to continuing our growth," said 6waves SVP of publishing Jim Ying.
Adding to the major changes within 6waves, former CTO and co-founder Brian Rue and chief product officer Arjun Sethi left the company
earlier this week. The former has already mentioned that he wants to start a new game development company and "try something new."
