Codemasters explores arcade angle for its F1 Racing series

Newsbrief: As part of Codemasters' switch to purely racing games earlier this year, the company has now announced a new spin on its F1 Racing franchise, with a more casual, arcade approach.

F1 Race Stars, due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC later this year, will feature over-the-top race tracks that feature loop-the-loops, elevated hairpins and more arcade-style elements that are a far cry from the realistic racing nature of the regular F1 series.

The game will be released via the new Codemasters Racing label during the holiday season. Dirt Showdown was the first title to be published through the new label earlier this year.

Hmm, good luck with that as taking an arcade approach runs against the appeal of the F1 license IMO. But maybe they'll make a great game that succeeds anyway--but seems like they're paying for a license that will have a limited boost for the audience that wants to play an arcade racer.

Wow, sounds like TrackMania. Of course I'm fine with that because I quit playing / buying Trackmania the day it was bought by Ubisoft. I'll have to look into this one.
