Who else is hoping that they use the tech from Gaikai to add in backwards compatibility for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games with out having to add in the hardware? That is my hope. This would add a huge edge for the PS4 over the next X-Box IMHO. The only question for me at that point is would we have to pay for our games again? If Sony is smart they wont make us do that. If this happened I would seriously want to buy a PS4. They also need to add in functionality for people to transfer over all their profile details, trophies, friends lists, and purchases off of the PSN Store.

Alan, I'm right there with you. This is the one feature I really want to see. I think they can avoid the need to charge us again by having the system at least verify the disc is valid after it's inserted while actually streaming the content from the cloud.

@Ali Afshari - I agree. A disc verification would make it so much easier for the consumers. Hopefully Sony is smart enough to know this. In the position they are in against Microsoft they need ever possible edge to get people to adopt the PS4 asap.

I haven't followed this Gaikai situation much. Does this mean they would do away with the much-loathed cell processor?

@Jimmy Albright - Supposedly PS4 will run on an AMD chipset including the GPU. But that has not been confirmed as far as I know.

Streaming would be nice for the PS3 compatibility. One would hope that it would be unnecessary for PS1 and PS2 games as those could be run via digital download. I am not a huge fan of streaming games or anything that requires a constant stable internet connection. That doesn't exist where I live. I could download a PS1 or PS2 game just fine (although the PS2 game would take a couple of hours without some kind of P2P technology built in). I would prefer that.

Gamasutra is already assuming this is going to be an unveiling of the PlayStation 4. They don't know that this is going to happen. Should have been more like "Watch Sony's Press Conference. Reveal of PS4?" or something along those lines.

In any case, it probably will be a reveal and I'd be super disappointed if it ends up not being a reveal of the PS4.

I still like to think this will just be some announcement about the Vita and some way they are going to try to salvage it at this point.

The fact that they're announcing the PS4 today is the worse keep secret in the industry. ;)

@Knight: I'm sure they're going to announce somethings about the Vita as well (they have a couple of videos of the Vita on their teaser webpage), but if Sony has let this much hype build up for a product that's been out for a year, then this is the biggest "punk" ever!

They'll still have a presentation at e3 but they wanted to beat MS to the punch with their next gen system. This way they can spend more time really showing ps4 content versus just talking about talking about features.

Sony PS4 presentation checklist:

1) Be First to announce console: check
2) Drone on for hours with words nobody listens to or cares about: check
3) Have nothing next gen to show unyet drag a bunch of mediocre trailers out anyway: check
4) Fail to show what the PS4 console looks like in several hours of presentation: check
5) Fade into forgettable mediocrity: check

If you have nothing to shout about, why spend money telling everyone? I guess I must be seriously cranky...because I thought that was rubbish.

Well it was really suppose to be like an Apple event, however it failed to capture the magic of the Apple reveal. There where just too many promises, little talk about their controller and how it works, and just a lot of tech demos and concept PC stuff. No box to show shows that they rushed to get out first with information. It will make Fans of the PS brand happy though to know what they are being promised.

@AW: It was missing the one thing I respect about Apple events. Right after they announce the product it is available for purchase on their website (and ships shortly there after).
