After many weeks of lead-up, Kickstarter has officially opened to Canadian project creators.

Canadian accounts can now start building and submitting projects, with the first batch going live on September 9th. In the meantime, Kickstarter is holding several workshops in Toronto and Montreal to help prospective creators hit the ground running with their projects.

In a recent Q&A with Gamasutra, community lead Cindy Au indicated that nearly half (42 percent) of Kickstarter backers come from outside of the United States, with a sizable portion of those contributors coming from Canada. Additionally, pledges for games projects on Kickstarters continue on an upswing, set to surpass $84.5 million by year's end.

"It's a very healthy category with a great community of backers," Au told Gamasutra.

Creators looking to get involved can sign up for workshops or start building their project from Kickstarter's Canada hub.
