With early reviews rolling in, analysts have also begun to offer their projections on Rockstar's and Take Two Interactive's newest moneymaker, Grand Theft Auto V. Multiple analyst firms are expecting a sizable windfall within its launch window, including one firm's projection that GTA V will generate $1 billion U.S. at retail within its first month of sale.

None of this is entirely surprising, as Take Two predicted in July that Grand Theft Auto V would substantially outsell its predecessors. However, going from the franchise's install base, preorder numbers and, now, early reviews from consumer-oriented publications, analyst firms Sterne Agee and Robert W. Baird & Co are affirming Take Two's optimism.

"Based on our calculations, we think our estimate of 18-20 million units [by end of March 2014] is likely in-line with the company's internal estimate," say Sterne Agee analysts Arvind Bhatia and Brett Strauser. "We see potential for worldwide day-one sell-through of 6.5 million units [and] $400 million for GTA V."

"We expect $1 billion + retail sales over first month," says Colin Sebastian of Robert W. Baird & Co. The firm also anticipates "roughly 12 million" units shipped by the end of September, versus Sterne Agee's slightly more optimistic projection of 13.5 million.

Collectively, the two firms project 18-20 million units sold through by March of 2014, which is the end of Take Two's fiscal year. To put into perspective, Take Two has to date shipped about 25 million units worldwide of the game's predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 4.

It feels really strange in 2013 to be waiting for a PC port. Thought those days ended after 2007 or so, when PC digital sales took off and made us a priority platform again. Oh well... I can wait. Rockstar likes to make me wait.

Yeah I haven't played GTA since Vice City. GTA V looks good. If it comes out for PC I'll get it.

I'm sure it will. Not only has every GTA done so, but Rockstar advertised for PC port developers not long ago.

I'm still hoping for a Read Dead port, though that ship likely sailed a long time ago. I'll have to buy a PS3 just to play that eventually, but I keep waiting.

I was also disappointed Red Dead never made it to PC. Platform exclusives are just weird to me, imagine if TV did that. Don't have a Sony TV? can't get X channels. In that scenario people would just stop buying Sony televisions, somehow consoles get a pass though.

GTA V will be on PC, there have been so many leaks and mistakes revealing its existence now that I'm surprised anybody is still worrying. With the next gen console architecture being PC based and the recent digital upsurge in PC gaming, aswell as the consistent PC release of all major GTA titles since conception, any other scenario is unthinkable.

I'm sure it's coming, I'm just whining about the wait. I never played the episodes though so I'm doing that now instead!

The only reason I got a PS3 at that point in time was to play RDR--shame it never came out on PC.

They are expecting 20 million units by March 2014?! Then again this gaming season had blank spots. Let's see how it fairs on YouTube, and Twitch.

I certainly see why they think an event game of this kind is immune to the general industry fatigue and end of generation apathy. I don't know if it will sell 20 million but it will do amazingly well I'm sure.

Minecraft, CoD, LoL are perfect examples of LPs, and streams. I'm very intrigued to see how it performs.
