He left out step 1: have a history of successful titles under your belt.

I know I sound like a stick in the mud, but it's like having a guy tell you the best way to make millions is to invest the millions you already have. Total disconnect in resources (money and manpower) from what the REAL little guys can do. Also kind of miffed at the "look how much we made thru Kickstarter" thing when they are basically raking-in cash from the sale of digital trading cards.

Showing fans the amount of work that goes into the game is great, but drip-feeding a bunch of space junkies (literally needing the latest image or video to get that next high) could lead to burn-out or expectations the "finished" game can't provide. I'd be happy for the game to be just half of what was originally promised, but the core fan base may go nuts over the slightest little change.

They are making money by selling an idea, and I'm mostly sure they are using the money to deliver on that shared vision, but a slide that mentions how many would by a Rift for VR play... that's the ugly head of feature creep, and it's snacking away at your build time.

We crowd-funded Natural Selection 2 before Kickstarter was a thing, and I still learned tons in this talk. Inspirational, Chris!
