Epic executives Mark Rein and Paul Meegan have revealed via Twitter that the next game in the long-running Unreal Tournament
franchise will debut next Thursday via a Twitch TV livestream.
The most recent prior installment of the franchise is Unreal Tournament III
, which was released by Midway for the PC and PlayStation 3 in 2007, and Xbox 360 in 2008. It served a showcase for the company's Unreal Engine 3.
We can expect that the new title will assume much the same role for Unreal Engine 4, which was made available by monthly subscription
in March and recently updated
to better support Xbox One and PlayStation 4 development.
The new Unreal Tournament
game will be the first major PC and console title the studio has unveiled since Chinese online giant Tencent acquired a significant stake
in the company.
