Newsbrief: After the success of its narrative-driven adventure game series The Walking Dead, Telltale Games has confirmed that a third season is on the way.

The first season of The Walking Dead video game was released in five episodes during 2012, and received critical acclaim from press and players alike. Gamasutra picked the series as one of its games of the year in 2012.

Now Telltale has confirmed that a third series is on the way, as part of a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The second season is currently still running, with the final episode due for release in the coming months.

The success of the franchise is notable, in that it's a very narrative-driven experience that has begun to inspire many other developers aiming to create narrative-driven games. The franchise has sold more than 28 million episodes worldwide to date.

I just wish they told stories and weren't so desperately trying to be games. Especially episode 4 of season 2 was a prime example for how severely storytelling and gameplay (have to) conflict.

Agreed with the above comments. Season 2 was an instant buy from me using the season pass, but I have pretty much stopped playing it at episode 3 as it just isn't that much fun or interesting. I'm glad it is a success for the developers, but I don't think I care to see a Season 3 at this point. Maybe I'm a minority though.

I've liked Season 2 so far. Its been pretty brutal. Like stitching up Clementine's arm or almost all of episode 3. But Episode 4 was just...overwhelmingly disappointing. Which is a nice mix up from how brutal ep 3 was, so I won't complain yet. Unless ep5 is a total stinker, I'll be pretty satisfied by Season 2 and will look forward to Season 3.

I don't like Season 2; I can't "feel it" like in previous one.
