Heads up: Security vulnerability discovered in git clients

December 18, 2014 | By Christian Nutt

Newsbrief: Developers who use git and GitHub for their projects, heads up. A security vulnerability has been discovered in git clients, which has been patched as of today, but requires a client update to be fully addressed.

GitHub, one of the most popular services for the tech, has addressed this concern on its end, as it detailed in a blog post: "We strongly encourage all users of GitHub and GitHub Enterprise to update their Git clients as soon as possible, and to be particularly careful when cloning or accessing Git repositories hosted on unsafe or untrusted hosts," the company's Vincent Marti wrote in a blog post that details the vulnerability and how to address it.

UPDATE: The story has been clarified to note that the vulnerability was in git at large -- and not GitHub specifically.
