Oculus VR is funding about two dozen Rift-exclusive games

July 7, 2015 | By Alex Wawro

Oculus VR chief Brendan Iribe has told Gamaustra that Oculus is now fully funding development of roughly two dozen Rift-exclusive games, including Insomniac's action-adventure game Edge of Nowhere.

The news comes courtesy of a wide-ranging chat Iribe had with Gamasutra editor-in-chief Kris Graft at E3 last month, and lends further credence to the perception that Oculus VR has evolved from a hardware company to a full-blown platform holder in the wake of the Facebook acquisition.

The company is also investing resources in helping to publish third-party games that are a good fit for the Rift, producing its own motion controllers and aiming to spend $10 million on funding independent VR game development, even as it quietly pursues VR development outside of games through divisions like the Oculus Story Studio.

"We're developers at heart," Iribe told Gamasutra last month. "We're gaming and entertainment."

For more key takeaways from our conversation with Iribe, including why third-person VR games are under-appreciated and how non-game companies are investigating VR experience development, check out the full article.
