Prince Of Persia To Return In Forgotten Sands , May 2010

Ubisoft today revealed it is developing a new Prince of Persia game, titled The Forgotten Sands, for consoles and handhelds.

The game, scheduled for release in May 2010, will revisit the storyline of the popular 2003 Prince of Persia game The Sands of Time and its two sequels, promising the return of "fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations."

May 2010 is also the current release window for the Disney-produced live action Mike Newell film based on The Sands of Time, starring Jake Gyllenhall. Although Ubisoft did not specify how or whether the new title would tie into the movie launch, the company has strongly pursued a cross-media film and game strategy with other franchises.

"The goal is to reach both...core and casual gamers," explained CEO Yves Guillemot on the company's first-half results call to investors. He promised "lots of combat," but stressed the aim of serving beginner-level gamers as well.

"We are trying to cover both groups," he said.

Quote from the article

I would strongly invite CEO Yves Guillemot to read more about Casual and Hardcore gamers on Gamasutra. That so called "casual" public target maybe is a common misconception afterall.

If it was the case, a misconception, modifying a game to reach a public that doesn't really exist would make a game even worst.

"Lots of combat?" Does he even understand what people enjoyed about Sands of Time?

"Lots of combat"

Oh dear... somebody lock Yannis Mallat in the nearest closet, it's gonna end up like Warrior Within again :(

Sands Blew me away .........so much so I blindly purchased the next three . BIG MISTAKE . Sands of time was so good in fact it has me wondering what happened to the original team . Did they really have any part at all in the next two or three games. ...... Has the Magic has it been lost for all time.

Please put a good writing team on the next one...........You have the graphics in the bag.

Mechner hasn't been involved since The Sands of Time. That's what is missing.

Without Mechner, the series has become a stale property. The last three releases has been aimed at fourteen year old boys--and that's (about) it.

I admit a certain degree of hero worship here. Mechner's games have always fascinated me... But, there's some logic here, too. Bottom line: bring back Jordan Mechner.
