Sony is closing down the PSP's native marketplace
Sony is closing down the PSP's native marketplace
March 1, 2016 | By Chris Kerr

Sony has announced it'll be shutting down the PlayStation Portable's (PSP) native PlayStation Store on March 31.

An update to the PSP support page reveals the handheld's native store in the Sony Computer Entertainment America region will be closing at the end of this month, although anyone still using the device will be able to purchase content from the web-based marketplace.

Sony also explained that PSP owners will still be allowed to make in-game purchases directly from the handheld, and access past purchases via the PSP's download list.

It's the second change in as many days for Sony, with the company yesterday casting doubt on the future of its PlayStation TV microconsole by confirming it stopped shipping the device to Europe and the U.S. last year.

According to a number of reports, Sony has also halted sales of the PlayStation TV in Japan, suggesting the device's days are well and truly numbered.
