Saling The World: Wii Fit Plus, EA Sports Active Lead New Year's Sales

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.
This week's charts, with data taken from January 7th, 2010, find EA Sports Active and Wii Fit Plus heading Nintendo Wii sales in the United States, while Final Fantasy XIII maintains its lead in Japan.
Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:
Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. EA Sports Active (EA Games), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 4. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 5. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo).
Japan: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 5. Momotarou Dentetsu 2010 (Hudson).
UK: 1. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 2. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo).
Fitness titles lead Nintendo Wii software sales in North America, as Amazon customers eagerly take the first step in honoring weight loss resolutions for the new year.
EA Sports Active leads the pack after a recent "Deal of the Day" price drop, as Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus bundle trails close behind. Ubisoft's Just Dance also sees a jump in popularity this week, and finishes as this week's biggest seller in the UK.
Xbox 360
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. Bayonetta (Sega), 4. Gears of War 2: Game of the Year Edition (Microsoft), 5. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games).
Japan: 1. Steins;Gate (5pb), 2. Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (Bethesda), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix), 4. Chaos;Head Noah (5pb), 5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Square Enix).
UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 3. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 4. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games), 5. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Rockstar).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II topped the U.S. Xbox 360 charts throughout the holiday season, and continue to lead sales into the new year.
Sega's Bayonetta makes a strong debut at third place this week, finishing ahead of Left 4 Dead 2 and the recently released Game of the Year Edition of Gears of War 2.
5pb's visual novel Steins;Gate leads platform sales in Japan, meanwhile, as Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition moves up past Modern Warfare 2 to take second place.
PlayStation 3
North America: 1. God of War Collection (SCEA), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEA), 4. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 5. Darksiders (THQ).
Japan: 1. Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Square Enix), 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix), 5. Demon's Souls (SCEI).
UK: 1. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEE), 4. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 5. Need for Speed: Shift (EA Games).
Sony's God of War Collection heads PS3 sales in North America this week, following a recent price drop at Amazon. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 also make strong chart performances, as THQ's Darksiders premieres this week at fifth place.
In Japan, Final Fantasy XIII continues its run as the PS3's top title, as a steep Amazon discount puts the original Modern Warfare ahead of Modern Warfare 2 in weekly Japanese sales numbers.
PlayStation 2
North America: 1. Final Fantasy X -- Greatest Hits (Square Enix), 2. Madden NFL 10 (EA Sports), 3. Kingdom Hearts II -- Greatest Hits (Square Enix), 4. Kingdom Hearts -- Greatest Hits (Square Enix), 5. Final Fantasy XII -- Greatest Hits (Square Enix).
Japan: 1. Little Busters! Converted Edition (Prototype), 2. Hakuouki: Zuisouroku (Idea Factory), 3. Amagami (Enterbrain), 4. Persona 4 (Atlus), 5. Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress + Premium Best (Konami).
UK: 1. SingStar: Take That (SCEE), 2. SingStar: ABBA (SCEE), 3. SingStar: Queen (SCEE), 4. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 5. SingStar '80s (SCEE).
Square Enix takes over the PS2 sales chart in North America, with Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, and both Kingdom Hearts titles finishing among the region's top sellers for the week.
Prototype's edited visual novel Little Busters! Converted Edition leads in Japan, where Beatmania IIDX 16 returns to the charts to take fifth place.

The Sims 3 once again heads PC software sales at Amazon, with Dragon Age: Origins leading over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at second place.
Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy drops out of the U.S. top five, meanwhile, as World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King returns to finish fourth.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks leads post-Christmas Nintendo DS sales in the United States, boosted by a recent discount in price at Amazon. New Super Mario Bros. trails at second place, while Mario Kart DS finishes ahead of Scribblenauts.
Tomodachi Collection surpasses Zelda no Densetsu: Daichi no Kiteki in weekly sales numbers in Japan, while in Europe, Professor Layton and Pandora's Box maintains a commanding lead.

Dissidia Final Fantasy and God of War: Chains of Olympus top the domestic PSP charts this week, as Crisis Core and Star Wars Battlefront also continue to see strong sales.
Elsewhere, Phantasy Star Portable 2 leads the PSP charts in Japan, as FIFA 10 remains a big seller in Europe.
