The Who Super Bowl Medley Heads To Rock Band

Following an impending Super Bowl performance by legendary rock band The Who, a separately-recorded version of the same medley will be made available to purchase for Rock Band and Rock Band 2.

The group, which officially consists of only its two remaining original members, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, but which generally plays with a consistent touring band, will be the headline act during the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show this Sunday.

Though not officially confirmed, it is likely the additional members will consist of Zak Starkey, son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, standing in for original drummer Keith Moon; Pino Palladino standing in for original bassist John Entwistle; Simon Townshend, Pete Townshend's brother, on rhythm guitar; and John Bundrick on keyboards.

In a recent Billboard.com interview, Townshend said the medley would include parts of "Baba O'Riley," "Pinball Wizard," "Who Are You," "Won't Get Fooled Again," and sections of the end of the album Tommy.

The previously-recorded Rock Band version of the medley, titled "The Who Super Bowl S-mashup," will go on sale immediately after the conclusion of the Super Bowl for Xbox 360 and Wii, with publisher MTV Games saying a PlayStation 3 version is "coming soon."

The Xbox 360 version of the track will sell for 160 Microsoft points, and the equivalent $1.99 on Wii.

Over a dozen The Who songs are already available across Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and the Rock Band download store, including several tracks from which the Super Bowl medley draws: "Won’t Get Fooled Again," "Pinball Wizard," and "Baba O’Riley."

Post super-bowl drunken Rock Banding? I think this kind of thing is why Rock Band was invented! Hope the song is tight. :)
