DICE 2010:  Uncharted 2  Leads AIAS Winners With 10 Awards

Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was the big winner at the 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards held at DICE 2010 in Las Vegas this evening, coming away with ten awards, including the overall Game Of The Year.

Hosted by gregarious stand-up comedian and video game enthusiast Jay Mohr at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, the awards spanned a mass of diverse categories in order to honor a large amount of the leading video game titles of 2009.

As well as picking up Game Of The Year, the Sony-published PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2 also picked up awards for Game Direction, Visual Engineering, Original Story, and more.

Other multiple award-winners over the plethora of gongs included Batman: Arkham Asylum, Scribblenauts, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Brutal Legend.

The 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards honored successful game designer and Activision co-founder, David Crane with the AIAS' Pioneer Award. Entertainment Software Association (ESA) founder, Douglas Lowenstein was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition, the gaming legend behind successful titles Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, Mark Cerny, was inducted into the Hall of Fame, one of the organization's highest honors.

Scribblenauts did not deserve to sweep the portable categories. Very strange.

edit: oh I thought there were three portable categories. In any case, innovation award, sure, but I thought everyone agreed the execution and actual design fell short. Guess the judges saw something nobody else did.

well, to be fair, U2 didnt sell THAT many copies...compared to other exclusive titles like halo or gears. However, I do agree that some of those awards are questionable...like game play and story. (the game play wasnt great or new IMO, and the story definitely was NOT new or original, but how it was told was really well done)
