Konami Licenses Epic's Unreal Engine 3 For Saw II: The Game

Raleigh, NC-based developer Epic Games said Thursday that Konami Digital Entertainment licensed the Gears of War studio's Unreal Engine 3 for Saw II: The Game.

It's the latest in a long line of UE3 licensing agreements. UE3 is used in dozens of current-generation games, from Epic's own Gears of War to Take-Two's BioShock and smaller, independent games in all major territories.

Saw II: The Game is the upcoming sequel to November 2009's Saw, which are based on the popular horror film franchise. Both games are developed by Zombie Studios and the original also used UE3.

According to a press statement, Saw II is Seattle, WA-based Zombie Studios' ninth title and fourth franchise that has shipped with UE3.

Saw II is a third-person survival horror shooter that has a revamped combat system and new puzzles. It's slated to release in fall 2010 alongside the release of the film Saw VII.

Sigh. For all the violence you see in video games, one aspect it's really avoided is the "torture porn" genre (popularized by Saw) which focuses mostly on sadism, which at least IMHO, is far, far worse.

Well, at least they are using a good game engine lol...

I'm curious why is it news every time some game licenses unreal engine? Might as well have hundreds of articles "Epic Games purchases Hersheys chocolate for devs" "Nintendo licenses Miyamoto Catering Services" and so on.

Well just a minor nit pick but anyhow that's my opinion on these articles.
