Saling The World:  Love Plus+, Tokimeki Memorial  Head Japanese Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from June 24th, 2010, find Konami's Love Plus+ and Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 3rd Story leading multiplatform sales in Japan, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 come out on top stateside.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 2. Xenoblade (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 2. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 3. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. EA Sports Active (EA Sports).

New Super Mario Bros. Wii overtakes Super Mario Galaxy 2 in this week's North American Wii sales charts, following a drop in price at Amazon.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 claims the top chart spot in Japan, meanwhile, as Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 takes second place in the UK charts in its debut week.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Transformers: War for Cybertron (Activision), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 4. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 5. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Frontier Online: Beginner's Package (Capcom), 2. Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra (5pb), 3. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Take 2 Interactive Japan), 4. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 5. Alan Wake (Microsoft).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 4. BioShock 2 (2K Games), 5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games).

Red Dead Redemption remains the fastest-selling Xbox 360 title in North America, though Activision's Transformers: War for Cybertron is off to a strong sales start this week at second place.

Capcom's online multiplayer action-RPG Monster Hunter Frontier Online leads as today's top Japanese seller, as Lego Harry Potter comes up short against Red Dead Redemption in Europe.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. God of War III (SCEA), 2. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEA), 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 5. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft).

Japan: 1. White Album: Tsuzurareru Fuyu no Omoide (Aqua Plus), 2. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Take 2 Interactive Japan), 3. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 4. World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 (Konami), 5. Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 4. Uncharted 2 (SCEE), 5. Demon's Souls: Black Phantom Edition (Namco Bandai).

God of War III heads the PlayStation 3 charts in North America, leaving last week's sales leader Red Dead Redemption at second place.

Aqua Plus's visual novel White Album takes top honors in Japan in its debut week, as the European version of Demon's Souls premieres at fifth place in the UK charts.


PC
North America: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold (Microsoft), 3. Transformers: War for Cybertron (Activision), 4. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games), 5. Mass Effect (EA Games).

Japan: 1. The Sims 3: Ambition Data Set (EA Games), 2. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 7.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 3. The Sims 3: High End Loft Pack (EA Games), 4. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 5. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 6.0 Premium Package (Capcom).

UK: 1. The Sims 3: Ambitions (EA Games), 2. Football Manager 2010 (Sega), 3. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 4. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 5. The Sims 3: World Adventures (EA Games).

The Sims 3 again leads PC software sales in the United States, while Activision's Transformers: War for Cybertron makes an impression at third place.

The Sims 3 and its expansion packs also rack up impressive sales in Japan, as Sega's Football Manager 2010 maintains its chart position in the UK.


Nintendo DS
North America: 1. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force - Collector's Edition (Disney), 2. Toy Story 3 (Disney), 3. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 5. 100 Classic Books (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Love Plus+ (Konami), 2. Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 3rd Story (Konami), 3. Eigokoro Kyoushitsu DS (Nintendo), 4. Ghost Trick (Capcom), 5. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 (Square Enix).

UK: 1. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 2. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (Nintendo), 3. Club Penguin: Herbert's Revenge (Disney), 4. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (Nintendo), 5. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo).

Disney takes over the DS charts in North America this week with a discounted Collector's Edition of Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force and the recently released game adaptation of the animated film Toy Story 3.

Konami's dating sim sequels Love Plus+ and Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 3rd Story steal the top two chart spots in Japan, as Nintendo's art training application Eigokoro Kyoushitsu DS and Capcom's premiering Ghost Trick trail close behind.


PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. Star Ocean: First Departure (Square Enix), 2. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 3. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (Square Enix), 4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 5. Hexyz Force (Atlus).

Japan: 1. Starry * Sky: In Spring Portable - Limited Edition (Honeybee), 2. Boku no Natsuyasumi Portable 2 (SCEI), 3. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva (Sega), 4. Starry * Sky: In Spring Portable (Honeybee), 5. Uta no * Prince-sama (Broccoli).

UK: 1. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 2. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 3. LittleBigPlanet (SCEE), 4. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 5. Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (LucasArts).

A trio of price-dropped Square Enix offerings head the PSP charts in the United States, with Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Atlus's recently debuted Hexyz Force trailing at fourth and fifth place.

The visual novels Starry Sky and Uta no Prince-sama are off to a promising start in Japan, meanwhile, as Peace Walker continues its chart reign in the UK.
