Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from January 20th, 2011, find LittleBigPlanet 2 and Just Dance 2 leading multiplatform sales in North America and the UK, while Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix rivals Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for the top chart spot in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. LittleBigPlanet 2 (SCEA, PS3), 2. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 3. Epic Mickey (Disney, Wii), 4. LittleBigPlanet 2 Collector's Edition (SCEA, PS3), 5. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom, PSP), 2. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix (Square Enix, PSP), 3. Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi (Level 5, DS), 4. Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo, Wii), 5. Shape Boxing 2 Wii de Enjoy Diet (Rocket Company, Wii).

UK: 1. LittleBigPlanet 2 (SCEE, PS3), 2. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 3. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEE, PS3), 4. Halo: Reach (Microsoft, X360), 5. The Biggest Loser Challenge (THQ, Wii).

LittleBigPlanet 2 tops North American and European software sales in its debut week, dropping former chart leader Just Dance 2 to second place in both regions. Disney's Epic Mickey climbs up to third place in the U.S. charts, while Majesco's Zumba Fitness makes an appearance at fifth.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and a reissued and enhanced Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep lead Japanese sales this week, as Gran Turismo 5 and Halo: Reach join the top sellers' list in the UK.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Epic Mickey (Disney), 3. Zumba Fitness (Majesco), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo), 2. Shape Boxing 2 Wii de Enjoy Diet (Rocket Company), 3. Wii Party (Nintendo), 4. Karaoke Joysound Wii Super DX (Hudson), 5. Wii Sports Resort Bundle (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. The Biggest Loser Challenge (THQ), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 5. Wii Party (Nintendo).

Weight loss and exercise titles for the Wii continue to see brisk sales in all regions this week, with Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus and Majesco's Zumba Fitness proving particularly successful stateside.

Rocket Company's Shape Boxing 2 Wii de Enjoy Diet (sequel to a game released in North America as Gold's Gym Cardio Workout) rivals Donkey Kong Returns for the top spot in Japan, while THQ's The Biggest Loser Challenge outsells Wii Fit Plus and Just Dance in Europe.

North America: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Dance Central (MTV Games), 3. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 4. Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures (Microsoft), 5. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft).

Japan: 1. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games), 2. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft), 3. Dance Evolution (Konami), 4. Mass Effect (Microsoft), 5. Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Edition (Microsoft).

UK: 1. Halo: Reach (Microsoft), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Edition (Microsoft).

Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops reclaims first place in today's domestic Xbox 360 sales charts, as several Kinect-compatible titles follow close behind. Black Ops also sees big sales in the UK, where Halo: Reach enjoys continued popularity.

The Japanese version of Mass Effect 2 heads regional platform sales in its first week of release, meanwhile, overtaking Your Shape: Fitness Evolved and resulting in a sales boost for the original Mass Effect.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. LittleBigPlanet 2 (SCEA), 2. LittleBigPlanet 2 Collector's Edition (SCEA), 3. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 5. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEA).

Japan: 1. Vanquish (Sega), 2. Arcana Heart 3 (Arc System Works), 3. Tales of Graces F (Namco), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Dubbed Edition (Square Enix), 5. Gundam Musou 3 (Bandai).

UK: 1. LittleBigPlanet 2 (SCEA), 2. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEE), 3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 5. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games).

The newly released PS3 port of Mass Effect 2 sees strong sales in its debut week in the U.S. and the UK, while LittleBigPlanet 2 emerges as the platform's biggest seller in both regions.

Arc System Works' one-on-one fighter Arcana Heart 3 and Sega's heavily discounted Vanquish lead the charts in Japan, where Namco Bandai's Tales of Graces F and Gundam Musou continue to rank among the platform's biggest sellers.

Japan: 1. Final Fantasy XIV (Square Enix), 2. Mahou Tsukai no Yoru (Type Moon), 3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2K Games), 4. Final Fantasy XIV Collector's Edition (Square Enix), 5. Steins;Gate (Nitro Plus).

UK: 1. Football Manager 2011 (Sega), 2. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 3. The Sims 3: Late Night (EA Games), 4. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard), 5. The Sims 3: Ambitions (EA Games).

Sony's MMORPG DC Universe Online leads PC software sales at Amazon for the second week in a row, outperforming big names like The Sims 3 and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

Final Fantasy XIV is still a popular seller in Japan despite overwhelmingly negative customer reviews, while Football Manager 2011 and The Sims 3 continue to head sales results in Europe.

A discounted Final Fantasy IV joins Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts Re:coded at the top of the Nintendo DS charts in North America this week, where Capcom's recently released adventure game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective rivals New Super Mario Bros. for a spot in the top five.

Nintendo's language training title Eigo de Tabisuru: Little Charo premieres as a popular seller at Amazon.co.jp this week, as Art Academy and Professor Layton and the Lost Future continue to occupy the top sales spots in the UK.

North America: 1. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (Square Enix), 2. God of War: Ghost of Sparta (SCEA), 3. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 4. Valkyria Chronicles 2 (Sega), 5. Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman (NIS America).

Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep emerges as a top PSP seller in all regions this week, thanks to a recent enhanced rerelease in Japan and its continued popularity in North America and Europe.

Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker remains a big seller in the U.S. and the UK, as the cult favorites Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman report continued success stateside.
