Episodic adventure game publisher Telltale Games says it will be reviving a classic PC adventure game series with a reboot of Sierra's popular King's Quest, also confirming a sequel to last summer's Puzzle Agent.

Few details were given on the King's Quest project at a press event held by Telltale yesterday (as reported by IGN), save for the fact that the game would not be a straight port of the original series and that more information would be coming during June's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Puzzle Agent 2 will continue the adventures of professional puzzle solver Agent Tethers as he solves another case in a snowy Midwest locale, the company said.

Telltale also shared a first quarter, 2012 release target for a game based on Vertigo's Fables graphic novel, news of which had leaked early yesterday along with word of a Walking Dead game adaptation.

Telltale designer Sean Vanaman confirmed to Comic Book Resources that the inspiration for The Walking Dead title would come from the original comics, not the more recent AMC television adaptation.

"It's not so much like the comics beget the show beget the game; it's really like the comics are the nucleus for the franchise," he said.

Activision currently holds the publishing rights to the original Ken and Roberta Williams-developed King's Quest games, and initially threatened legal action against a fan-made sequel project last year, before changing its position and allowing a summer release.

As long as they don’t make it anything like 8 I will be happy.

Wow, this is fantastic news. I just hope that Telltale brings enough new things to the table to justify this remake: Infamous Adventures have already remade KQ1 and 2 (the second being an especially impressive piece of work) and AGDinteractive are finishing their work on KQIII redux, which aims to remake the third game without changing the story as much as the KQ2 remake but tweaking certain bits of it nonetheless.

Still, if Telltale can top all that I will be very impressed and a guaranteed customer.

I could always use more female goods.

I didn't especially care for any of Telltales's games before, but with Jurassic Park and now Kings Quest, I'm on board.

A.) Didn't they already reboot the King's Quest series when they re-released them with better artwork and sound?

B.) @Tore: LucasArts are the originators of the SCUMM engine. I think they'll do just fine.

Yeah, Sierra did a SVGA port of KQI, and a group of fans made a full fledged remake a few years back for KQI, KQII, and I believe they are working on KQIV [using an icon based system a la KQV/VI].

Sure they did, not a bad word to them.

But Sierra and Lucasarts adventure games were two different camps of the genre when i grew up.

Its like Coca Cola start making pepsi.
