Latest Japanese Sales Charts - Week Ending January 25

After weeks of abnormal behavior, due to the holiday buying season, the Japanese charts have returned to something very much like normal – with multiple new entries in the top ten, many of which will no doubt disappear just as quickly.

The top title this week is Genki’s Fuun Shinsengumi, a samurai themed team-based combat game. The rest of the new entries will be equally unfamiliar to Western gamers with few, if any, likely to be released outside of Japan.

If software sales have returned to normal then so to have the hardware results with combined Game Boy Advance sales commanding a huge 44.56% market share this week. The PlayStation 2 is only a little behind at 42.71%, but the GameCube has slipped yet again to one of its weakest ever performances at just 11.13%. The Xbox has fared equally poorly in the post-holiday season at 0.87% and risks again being outsold by the PS one at 0.49%.
