Nintendo 3DS Sells 31,000 In First Four Days In Australia

April 13, 2011 | By Mike Rose

Nintendo of Australia revealed that the 3DS sold more than 31,000 units in Australia in its first four days on sale, a new record for a handheld launch in the territory.

The Nintendo Wii originally sold 32,000 units in the same space of time, just beating the 3DS to Nintendo's best hardware launch in the country.

Nintendo of Australia also released new sales figures for the Nintendo Wii, confirming that the motion-control console has now sold more than 2.1 million units since its 2006 launch in the region.

The Nintendo 3DS launched in Australia on March 31. Elsewhere, the stereoscopic 3D handheld has seen solid launches, with day one sales in the UK and U.S. also setting company records.

One analyst said that the console will have sold around 11.6 million units by the end of 2011, but will not match the total Nintendo DS sales in a comparable period of time.
