Square Enix will release a compilation pack containing six classic Dragon Quest games ported to the Wii to tie in to the series' 25th anniversary, the company announced.

According to an official announcement on the company's Dragon Quest website (as translated by Andriasang), the package will contain emulated versions of the first three Dragon Quest games for the Japanese Family Computer (known here as the Nintendo Entertainment System), as well as their 16-bit remakes for the Super Famicom (what we called the Super Nintendo).

An English-language release seems unlikely, given the cult status of the games in the U.S. While the original 8-bit games were translated and released in the United States (as the Dragon Warrior series), the Super Nintendo remakes were never officially released.

The Dragon Quest series has sold over 57 million (packaged) units since its debut in May of 1986.

The new compilation pack is scheduled to ship in September, and will be part of a larger anniversary promotion, the company said.
