Runic Games' dungeon crawling RPG Torchlight has sold over 1 million copies across its PC, Mac and Xbox 360 versions, the developer announced today.
The milestone comes after a fourth of July Steam sale and an Xbox 360 Deal of the Week promotion helped drive continued sales of the title, which was launched at a price of just $20 back in October of 2009.
"We're very excited to share Torchlight’s success with our fans and supporters," said Runic president Travis Baldree in a statement. "It's been a great ride so far and we can’t wait to give everyone more of what they want in Torchlight II. It isn’t every day you sell a million games. We’re grateful to be here."
Given the amount of time and effort that has already gone into Diablo 3, I'd be pissed if they rushed it out before it was finished to try to grab some of Torchlight's audience.
If anything, Torchlight's low price point and ease of play is building up the audience for Diablo style games.
I'd guess somewhere in the $7-$8 range. $8M is nothing to sneeze at.
I wouldn't be surprised if torchlight 2 gets released, makes another cool million sales, and we still don't see a Diablo 3 release date.

This is the type of success story we're all cheering for.
