Current players of Tripwire's PC shooter Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad will see up to three weeks worth of in-game progress rolled back as the company patches a number of glitches that affected the game's balance.

Since its release in early September, Red Orchestra 2 has seen widespread complaints about performance issues, as well as glitches that resulted in players receiving unearned stats boosts and achievements.

Tripwire promises a patch being released today will fix these issues, but has taken the added step of resetting all player statistics to their starting point in order to rebalance in-game progression.

Early players will receive a special "In B4 Reset" achievement to acknowledge their previous participation, and Tripwire says it will be "looking at ways to give special rewards to the players that have this achievement in the future."

In addition, Tripwire says it will be offering double experience to all players "for the next few weeks" in order to allow them to quickly regain their previous progress level.

"This was not an easy decision for us to make, but one we felt we needed to do to preserve the integrity of the stats and ranking system, and to provide all of the players the best experience with the game over the long term," the company said.

Tripwire added that it has been gratified by the early success of Red Orchestra 2, which it says surpassed the lifetime revenue of 2006's Red Orchestra within just two days of its release. The sequel has become Tripwire's biggest success so far, selling three times as much as previous hit Killing Floor, the company said.
