The Xbox 360 saw its biggest sales week in the product's history during last week's "Black Friday" sales rush, according to Microsoft.

In all, over 960,000 consoles were sold in the United States during the week, the company said Tuesday. Of those, 800,000 were sold within a 24-hour period.

Additionally, 750,000 Kinect sensors were sold during the week, between standalone units and those bundled with consoles.

This record week comes during the system's seventh year on the market, an unprecedented accomplishment for a video game console.

Leading into the holidays, the system will undergo a free dashboard update that adds cloud storage for game saves, improved Kinect integration, and live television via several key partnerships.

Wow. Granted, they're almost giving them away now, but it's hard to see this and say the current gen is dead.

I agree. I know there's a demand for new consoles and whatnot, but I really can't say that I'm ready to replace my 360 or see the PS4 come along. Both consoles can still hold their own and (at least for the 360) continue to evolve.

"Giving them away" eh?

Where at?

Hey, didn't Walmart sell the Wii's for a measly $99 on Black Friday(way lower than the best deals on the 360), and yet the 360 managed to outsell the Wii on Black Friday and for Black Friday week, and will probably clobber the Wii in sales when the NPD figures come out?

I picked up another unit on Amazon at 199$ for the 4GB Kinect model with a 50$ credit, essentially bringing the price for the unit *And* Kinect to 150$.... That's practically giving them away. 150$ for that much loot is impulse territory.

Also Xbox outselling Wii should be no surprise with the list of titles out this Fall.

No surprise. They were giving these away at every major retailer.

I was out Black Friday. Didn't see any 360's being "given away" for free anywhere. Perhaps, you will enlighten me as to where these free 360's were being away at, yes?

Reality; there were great deals for all 3 consoles on Black Friday, but the 360 just managed to come out ahead of the others. And that is despite the fact that the unlike the others, the 360 hasn't had a real price cut for well nigh 3 years.

Impressive sales. But think MS still has one more ace up their sleeve: Kinect Star Wars Limited Edition. Thus december sales could be greater than november.

December console sales are always higher(by a margin) than November console sales, irrespective of what games are released in November or December.

Giving them away? Look at the price of a launch ps3 vs a launch 360, and the 360 has one extra year under its belt. Amazing the price has come down a lot more at this point then it already has.

Can't wait till they decrease the price th 360 or are giving them away--I still need to get one so I can play some of those exclusives.

I am wondering how many of these purchases are new players, or just people replacing their dying unit. I know 3 people who have had to buy new units in the last 2 months due to "red ring of death" syndrome.
