Arakawa, 55, announced his retirement in a statement issued late Monday. Nintendo of Japan said he would be succeeded by Tatsumi Kimishima, president of Pokemon U.S.A. and chief financial officer of the Pokemon Co. A native of Japan, Kimishima spent more than 25 years in management positions with Sanwa Bank, including nearly seven years in New York and California.

Arakawa is the son-in-law of Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo Co. Ltd.
