On 28th February, 2012, Gameforge took on AION's European operations and switched the multiple award winning MMO to free-to-play. Since then updates have constantly extended the already expansive game with new content and extra functionality. For example, version 3.0 brought housing and mounts to Atreia, whilst the latest 4.0 update increased the squad of hero classes with the arrival of the Artist (with "Bard" specialisation) and the Engineer (with "Gunner" specialisation).

There’s also been progress where language versions are concerned: the population of Atreia has studied hard since the switch and now can also speak Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish alongside English, French and German.

Appearing in Europe on 9th April, update 4.5 will see the second Engineer class specialisation, the Rider, alongside a lot of other fresh content. On top of this, players can also look forward to in-game offers, the chance of additional AION Coins as well as boost events in celebration of the anniversary. Finally, between 26th February and 5th March, there’ll be an increased experience point gain or an increased drop chance for items available.

Which class is most popular amongst the players? How many characters were created in the second year of AION Free-to-Play? The accompanying infographic gives you an insight into our most important facts and figures.
