Los Angeles, CA - October 19, 2011
Massive Joe Studios, a Los Angeles-based mobile game developer,
today announced the launch of their new iOS title,
AOM – RPS, or
Age of Monsters – Rock Paper Scissors for short.
AOM – RPS transports players into a post-apocalyptic
world (largely based on North Philadelphia) overrun by monsters.
Players select from a series of iconic monster characters and
challenge friends, talk smack, and make friendly wagers to
determine the ultimate Rock Paper Scissors champion.
AOM – RPS is the first in a series of games in the
Age of Monsters world.
Creator and co-founder Jeff Matsuda, the Emmy Award winning
Producer and Creative Director of
The Batman cartoon, remarked, “When we came
together, we thought, what would be the greatest waste of my
talents? After much discussion we decided that a Rock Paper
Scissors game was the perfect vehicle. We haven't really checked,
but we're pretty sure this is the most epic version of Rock Paper
Scissors ever.”
CEO and co-founder Mike Su further commented, “We’re
really placing a big bet that the iOS ecosystem will some day be a
huge market that can sustain indie developers like us. Luckily,
we’ll have a first mover advantage in that I don’t
think there are many people developing games for this
platform.”
Players can use the game to decide who picks up the dinner tab,
who has to wear their underwear on their head for the day, or to
simply settle a score. They can connect with friends through
OpenFeint, Facebook, or Twitter, and invite new friends via email
or text message.
The young studio has also managed, through ethically
questionable means, to convince some great people to say nice
things about the game:
“Always bet on ROCK!” - Seth Green,
Robot Chicken
“It's like Michael Bay and H.P. Lovecraft had a baby. A
very disturbing but entertaining baby who lives inside your
iPhone.” - John August, writer
Go,
Big Fish
"This app is the perfect fix until Hollywood comes out with a
big-budget Rock, Paper, Scissors movie" - Jordan Mechner, Creator
Prince of Persia,
Karateka
